Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade will let you destroy the future with mechs

Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade is bringing the mechs of Games Workshop's futuristic universe to mobile and tablet devices, developer Pixel Toys announced today.

Set to hit sometime this fall, Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade will put players in mechanized suits of armor and task them with destroying, well, everything, if the trailer above is any indication. Its developers point out that it'll be the first game in which you can play as an Imperial Knight, the 40K universe's massive one-person walker.

"Freeblade is a tap shooter with the gameplay emphasis on perfect timing, utilizing the right weapon at the right moment, and precision skill," said Andy Wafer, co-founder of Pixel Toys, bringing to mind other highly stylized mobile action games like the Infinity Blade series. "Players take control of their Imperial Knight's weapon system as their mech tears through the environment. This is not another normal shooter; this is where Panzer Dragoon meets Walker in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The developer Pixel Toys touts years of experience at companies like Activision, Codemasters, Freestyle Games, Rebellion and Sony. Its previous titles include the Nintendo 3DS platformer Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo and the mobile action game Gunfinger: The Zombie Apocalypse.

"Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade signals a real step-change for Pixel Toys. We started Pixel Toys three years ago with a passion to use our console background to create the most exciting, visually intensive, high impact action titles for touch screen devices. With Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade we aim to deliver the rich, detailed and authentic mobile game that Warhammer fans deserve."
