'Dragon's Dogma' Is Finally Coming To PC

This article is more than 8 years old.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen---the expanded version of the original game---is coming to PC this January.

At long last, PC gamers can play one of the best RPGs released in the past five years. Dragon's Dogma is a weird, action-packed game with really unique and interesting mechanics both on and off the battlefield.

It's a really smart, fun, surprisingly deep game of exploration and intense, fast combat. Even just writing about it makes me want to go play.

Granted, the screenshots we've seen so far don't look all that much different than the PS3/Xbox 360 graphics, though Capcom says the game "will present stunningly high resolution graphics with increased fidelity."

Actually, though, looking at them makes me think a lot about another game that just came out this year: The Witcher 3. You fight many similar beasts like griffons and chimeras, but I'm going to have to admit to really preferring Dragon's Dogma when it comes to actually engaging with these monsters. You can climb up their backs, for one thing. Combat is tight and fluid and never suffers from The Witcher 3's clunky controls and awkward movement.

The game doesn't look anywhere near as good, but if I had to pick one for gameplay I'd go with Dragon's Dogma. For graphics and story, The Witcher 3 takes the cake. (Though I do really enjoy the opacity of Dragon's Dogma.)

In any case, look for the game this coming January on digital platforms for $29.99.

It will support gamepad and mouse and keyboard play, and will feature the same online play as on consoles. Steam Achievements will also be included. For those of you out there who haven't played the game, I can't recommend it enough. I just hope we get a proper sequel on current-gen consoles, and not just Dragon's Dogma Online.
